How much money could they possibly have saved in manufacturing by taking away its ability to flip? Looks so stupid, now.

So basically they are accepting that stereo 3D was just a gimmick, and that their new obsession is tablets.

So they need another version of DS to boost revenue.  

2DS looks like one of those consoles you see at drug stores like CVS or Walgreens.  

Saw this come up on my Facebook news feed this morning via Gametrailers and I actually had to check a couple of different sites to make sure this wasn't some stupid joke.

Being said, they already released Pikmin 3, Wonderful 101 is headed to America soon, and Donkey Kong is on the way this holiday, so I think they are starting to show a bit more of that Wii U attention.

I can't help but think that they're trying to go software only.

Such an occurence wouldn't be as bad as everyone thinks, because unlike Sega, I sincerely doubt that Nintendo's willing to hand out cease and desist orders to fan-made games like candy to small children.

If such a thing happens, perhaps we might get to see a new Majora's Mask from the guys behind RoTT 2013 with mod support and all that other cool stuff.

No real interest in that fugly looking thing. If I want to play 3DS games in 2D I can just turn off the 3D. I can't really imagine this thing selling very well.

Interesting I guess? It looks like it was built for children in mind considering it doesn't look like it can fold and it looks sturdier. Cheaper without 3D as well, which is an optional feature as is. Its portability is definitely in question though which has always been a selling point.

Overall it's kind of pointless to me. It might be able to catch on for others I guess.

Seriously thought the headline was a joke when I saw the news elsewhere. That design is all kinds of awful. I'm definitely sticking with my OG.

Maybe the design and price cut are geared towards children and casuals? Now 3ds sales are going to go even higher. Genius if you ask me. 

Awful design, but really it shows that 3D is the worst idea companies and the movie industry have tried to resurrect this decade. Avatar was fine it should have died there, even Sony and other TV manufacturers have dumped it.

A nice high res screen and some slightly boosted hardware would have been a much better idea, I don't think the 3D in 3DS has even been a real selling point from a consumer point of view.

horrible design the people that take the 3ds to work or out of house put it in there pocket....too big to do so with that.

i dont understand why they are releasing this when the 3ds is selling well already and over xmas will sell like hotcakes regardless
